Residents across Rohnert Park, Sonoma County, and parts of Marin County are being urged to monitor air quality as smoke from the Woodside Fire continues to spread across the region. Although the wildfire is burning near Timber Cove and Jenner along the Sonoma County coast, smoke has prompted an air quality advisory affecting surrounding communities, including Rohnert Park.
According to the Bay Area Air District, smoky and hazy conditions may be visible throughout Sonoma and Marin counties, with the smell of smoke possible and air quality reaching unhealthy levels for some residents. People with respiratory conditions, older adults, children, and other sensitive groups are encouraged to limit outdoor activity if smoke becomes noticeable.
The Woodside Fire has burned approximately 74 acres, with firefighters facing difficult conditions due to strong winds, heavy timber, and rugged terrain. Cal Fire says the blaze is wind-driven and has a slow to moderate rate of spread, with embers spotting ahead of the main fire, creating new ignitions beyond the fire’s perimeter.
To combat the growing wildfire, Cal Fire has deployed additional air and ground resources as crews work to contain the flames and protect nearby communities.
The fire has also caused significant travel disruptions. Highway 1 remains closed between Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Road and Timber Cove Road while emergency crews continue suppression efforts.
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for Zone 1D1, including Salt Point State Park and Timber Cove, covering areas north of Fort Ross Road, south of Kruse Ranch Road and Hauser Bridge Road, east of the coastline, and west of the South Fork of the Gualala River. Additional evacuation warnings remain in effect for nearby communities as conditions continue to evolve.
Officials are urging residents to stay informed through Cal Fire and local emergency alerts, follow evacuation instructions immediately if directed, and avoid traveling into affected areas unless absolutely necessary.
Firefighters remain on scene as containment efforts continue, and additional updates are expected as weather conditions and fire behavior change.
